An urgent plea has been issued for the return of a distinctive road sign that marks the entrance to a coastal Cumbrian village.
Ravenglass’ entry sign was reported as stolen on Saturday, August 26 after residents spotted only its support posts remaining.
The sign was commissioned and erected in 2016 by Muncaster Parish Council and is considered special to both residents and visitors alike.
It was funded through a donation from a film company who used the village’s main street as a filming location.
A spokesperson for the parish council said: “It’s grossly irresponsible and disrespectful to our community to have stolen our beautiful sign. It hasn’t even any value as scrap, yet it will cost thousands to replace.

“We’d urge everyone to keep a lookout in case it’s been abandoned somewhere and if it hasn’t, we would appeal to those who removed it to do the right thing and perhaps upon sober reflection, return it.
“Anyone with any information about it can contact the parish clerk email at clerkmuncasterpc@gmail.com or Cumbria Police, to whom the theft has been reported.”
Anyone with information can report it to police online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit or call 101.
Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
