Kendal Town suffered their first defeat in 10 North West Counties Premier League games last night.
They went down 2-0 at Colne and their lead at the top has been trimmed by a point to five.
On a night when little went right for the Mintcakes they lost to a penalty and a Matt Flynn own goal.
Until the trip to Colne – who had been relegated from the NPL West Division last season – Kendal had only dropped two points.
They were second best in the first-half when a 15th minute penalty by Lucas Weaver, conceded by Flynn with no complaints, gave Colne the edge.
Kendal were better in the second-half but wayward with their finishing. The chances that were created saw shots put over the top and the home keeper was not tested enough.
The crucial second goal came on the hour when a low cross, fiercely driven into the box, was inadvertently turned into his own net by Flynn.
Kendal play another of the relegated sides on Saturday when Ramsbottom Utd visit Parkside Road.
Rammy made a slow start but have picked up and last night’s 2-0 win over Cheadle Town moved them up to 11th some 11 points behind the Mintcakes but with a game in hand.
