Naked runner spotted on Lake District fell

The naked runner spotted on Blencathra

It’s not something you expect to see when out on a Lake District walk – but a couple got a huge shock when they came across a naked runner.

The pair were walking on Blencathra this morning, when the woman saw a runner coming towards her, wearing nothing but socks and trainers.

It was only when her partner, who was a little way behind her, arrived that the mystery man said ‘excuse me’ and began to put on shorts.

It happened at around 8.45am.

The shocked walker said: “I thought it was disgusting and told him so. We found it really offensive and it’s not something you expect. It was pretty intimidating for my wife to have a naked man running towards her. He was on the main path.

“I even rang the police, but they said it wasn’t illegal.”

The man has been spotted a few times this week – and it is understood that he was seen on Blencathra around the same time last year, so speculation is mounting that he arrives in the Lake District for a naked running break.

Thanks to Darren Tookey for providing video footage, which he took earlier this week.
