A person has been rescued from the water near Whitehaven Marina.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were called out yesterday evening to reports of the individual who was in need of help in the outer harbour.
When the team arrived, police and marina staff had managed to lower a throwline and buoy to the casualty.
A coastguard rescue swimmer was then immediately deployed to stabilise and recover the person to a safe point for extraction, allowing the team to hand over the individual to the care of the ambulance crew.
A Whitehaven Coastguard spokesman said the rescue was safe and successful for both the person involved and the rescue swimmer.
Maryport Coastguard, Cumbria Police, North West Ambulance Service attended and St Bees RNLI and Workington Lifeboat were stood down once the person was rescued safely.
