Penrith are back at Winters Park in Regional 1 North West when they entertain Manchester.
The visitors beat Kendal 38-34 last week after opening with a 22-22 draw at Anselmians.
Although injuries have disrupted the Penrith squad there was enough in last week’s 32-23 defeat at Stockport to suggest the first win is just around the corner.
Penrith are currently next to bottom with just the one point to show for their efforts while Kendal lie fifth with seven points.
On Saturday Kendal entertain mid-table Northwich who just edged-out Anselmians last week 29-28.
Following their relegation Kirkby Lonsdale now play in Regional 2 North West and after a winless campaign were celebrating a win last week when they beat the Manxmen of Douglas 19-13.
This week they travel to third in the table Firwood Waterloo.
In Regional 2 North the Cumbrian clubs have all had a rough start – apart from Upper Eden who are 100 per cent from their two opening games.
They sit proudly as one of three joint leaders in the table, while their three fellow Cumbrian clubs prop it up.
But the big test comes this week-end when they travel to Durham City who share the lead with them and Percy Park.
It’s a third successive game against Cumbrian opposition for Durham City and so far they have beaten Cockermouth 36-5 (at home) and Keswick 27-15 (away) last Saturday.
Upper Eden, who won the Counties 1 Cumbria League last season have started impressively with wins over Consett (43-33) away and West Hartlepool (45-10) at home on Saturday.
Keswick’s home defeat by Durham City was from a much improved performance but they face a tough trip to the top side in the shared leadership – Percy Park.
Cockermouth were also improved in their home defeat to Percy Park until falling away in the second half.
They face a daunting trip to Middlesbrough who put fifty points on Aspatria in the first game before going down 36-10 at Northern on Saturday.
That might be bad news for Aspatria as they will host Northern in what should be an attractive game for the Bower Park faithful – if a tough one.
Carlisle return to action in the Counties 1 Cumbria League with a visit to Whitehaven.
The city side weren’t involved at the weekend because of the decision by Silloth to pull out of League rugby.
Whitehaven did play and had to work hard for a 20-14 win at Windermere from their first outing of the season.
Carlisle are hot favourites to win the League and earn a swift return to Regional 2 North and certainly set-off on the right foot by beating Penrith 2nds 54-17.
Keswick 2nds and Aspatria 2nds are new to League rugby this season and have had good starts.
Although Keswick beat St. Benedict’s in their first game it didn’t count, with the points awarded to Benny’s, because the Lakes side had been the cause of scrums being uncontested.
However, they followed up with a hard fought 34-29 home win over Millom.
Aspatria 2nds (the Eagles) were 24-16 winners at home to Creighton, which was a good result as the Carlisle-based side had beaten Wigton in their first fixture.
On Saturday the Eagles host early League leaders Hawcoat Park while Keswick 2nds travel to Wigton.
Hawcoat Park beat Egremont 45-12 on Saturday to go to the top of the table.
Penrith 2nds, beaten 37-20 at Workington after their opening Carlisle defeat, will be hoping it’s third time lucky when they travel to Windermere.
Workington, the fallen giants of county rugby, are hoping for a revival this season and had six debutants against Penrith 2nds. They resume at home to Creighton.
