The west section of the County Sunday Cup was virtually a washout with one tie called off because of a waterlogged pitch and another because one team hadn’t enough players.
In the tie that could have gone ahead Salterbeck were unable to raise sufficient players for their clash with Northside and will be kicked out of the competition.
It left one tie to go ahead and it was a tight affair with Premier Division Dearham taken all the way at First Division Flimby before they edged it 3-2.
James Langstaff, Atlee Skillen and Lewis Manchester were on target for Dearham while Flimby’s replies came from Scott Underwood and Dan McDermott.
The tie that was called off was between Moresby and Thornhill and will be re-staged this week-end coming.
The wet weather also affected the Premier Division and two game that will have to be restaged at a later date were called off: Bluebell v Lowca; Parkside v FC Cosmos.
The West Cumberland Sunday League programme did stage three games, all of them in the First Division.
Leaders Sun Inn had one of their toughest tests of the season at Senhouse Street Club and after leading 3-1 at the break there was a goal for both sides in the second-half.
Dan Pearson (2), Richard O’Keefe and Finley Carruthers were the Sun scorers while Dan Smith and Gary O’Driscoll kept Senhouse in the contest.
Big winners were The Butchers who made short work of Swan as they swept home 8-0 but even a headline ‘Swan Butchered at Maryport’ might be off limits among today’s touchy, virtue-signalling so-called elite!
Jack Burns (2), Dean Scholey (2), Cieran Laverty (2), Joe Hetherington and an own goal made up the Butcher’s tally.
The other game was a close affair with Seaton Rangers claiming their first win – 2-1 at the Royal Oak with Grant Bell and Ryan Sibley sparking the Seaton celebrations. Brandon Tolson replied for the Oak.
