A £50 million transformation of a West Cumbrian industrial estate has taken a major step forward.

Cumberland Council’s executive has rubberstamped a contract award to engage Avison Young to support the delivery of phase two of the iSH Enterprise Campus at the Leconfield estate in Cleator Moor.

Mark Fryer, Cumberland leader, said: “We have some exciting development plans underway in our Cumberland area. They will support businesses to diversify beyond the nuclear sector and grow exports to support the Cumbrian economy. With the support of partners, it will lay the foundations for change, through improvements to connectivity and, community facilities.

“The development of the iSH Enterprise Campus at Leconfield is progressing well and work is well underway on the project.”

Industrial Solutions Hub is an economic regeneration initiative led by Cumberland Council with the support of key stakeholders including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Sellafield Ltd, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and private sector supply chain partners. The objective is to create a diverse and sustainable economy for West Cumbria.

The former Copeland Borough Council acquired the Leconfield Industrial Estate in 2021 to deliver the industrial Solutions Hub (iSH) mission.

The iSH Enterprise Campus is funded by Government and several other strategic partners.
