Workington Comets duo Connor Bailey and Luke Harrison were on the receiving end last night as Redcar crashed out of Championship KO Cup.

Scunthorpe marched into the final for the first time in five years with a convincing two-legged victory over the Bears.

The Scorpions won 49-41 at the ECCO Arena to complete a 26-point aggregate triumph and set up a Final clash with holders Poole.

In-form skipper Simon Lambert, a former Workington rider, collected 12+2 for the visitors with Jake Allen notching 9+2 against his former club and Drew Kemp picked up nine, whilst guest Richard Lawson (10+1) and Leon Flint (10) led the way for the injury-hit Bears.

Bailey was last in his first two outings, had a bonus point third in his next and then won his fourth and final ride for a total of four and a bonus.

Harrison had four rides at reserve and was third in three of them, without scoring in the other, for three points.

Ex-Comet Lawson had five rides in the number one slot, winning two of them and picking up a second and two third.

Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “We didn’t come here to defend an 18-point lead – we went out to extend that lead even further. The lads were desperate to have another crack at Poole in the Cup Final and now they’ve earnt that.”

Bailey and Harrison will be in the Comets team this afternoon riding in the final match of the season, a National Development League clash with Kent Royals at Northside (3pm).
