Roadworks are set to start on a major South Cumbrian route next week.
Contractors on behalf of National Highways will install energy efficient lighting on the A590’s Park Road roundabout, north of Barrow, from Monday.
Vehicle restraint systems and signs will also be replaced.
The work will take place from 8pm to 6am on weeknights only, to minimise disruptions to traffic.
A mixture of lane closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place to ensure safety. In the event of adverse weather conditions, slight adjustments to the schedule may be required, National Highways said.
It is expected to be complete in late January.
National Highways project manager Curtis Powell said: “Safety is our top priority at National Highways. The new LED lights will not only reduce our carbon emissions and ensure that journeys are safer, but also reduce the amount of maintenance needed across the network.”
