Great British Bake Off: Shocking week for Cumbrian baker Abbi Lawson

Cumbrian baker Abbi Lawson came to the end of her Great British Bake Off journey.

In the third episode of the popular Channel 4 series, bread week proved too much for the talented Tebay baker.

“It has given me such a massive confidence boost and I have met such amazing people. I am going to remember it every day for the rest of my life,” said a tearful Abbi.

“Although I am quite looking forward to getting back to my vegetables.”

Judge Paul Hollywood said Abbi’s week had been a shocker after earlier wobbles in technical and signature rounds.

She described her cottage loaf as being more of a bungalow and she fell into the danger zone for exiting this week after Hollywood described her plaited bread centrepiece showstopper as rudimentary.

Her plaited centrepiece featured a tree, with wild garlic flowers representing blossom.

After tasting her bread, Paul complimented Abbi’s flavours of walnut and stilton, wild garlic and nettle, which he said were unusual.

Despite a tough week and her eventual exit, the judges said Abbi’s flavours, from foraged ingredients, were unique.
