Distington said farewell to the Cumberland ARL by lifting the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup.
After a hard-fought final they came out on top 14-10 against Cockermouth Titans at Egremont.
Although Distington were the better side they were given a thorough test by a Cockermouth team which had been put together for the final with little or no match practice together.
After a good start to the season Cockermouth had run into player issues so that over the last two months they have rarely played.
Coach Jeff Clare said: “It was a team more or less thrown together and in the end was a magnificent effort.
“Although we had little or no time to prepare or organise with them, there are some talented players in there and were able to keep Distington busy for much of the game.
“The longer it went the more it look like we might win it but in the end we just couldn’t find the organisation to score the points we needed.
“But I can’t find the lads enthusiasm or endeavour and if we can find the consistency with the numbers next season I see no reason why we can’t pick-up a trophy.”
Distington coach Aiden Worthington said: “Cockermouth were able to ask us questions but we had the answers.
“It was a much changed side, with some very good rugby union players, and fair play to them they gave it their best shot.
“I think we definitely deserved to win and it was nice to end our time in the Cumberland ARL by taking the main trophy.
“It means we finish with the League winner’s trophy and the Cumberland Cup which represents a good season.”
Cockermouth were first onto the scoreboard when Ollie Anderson crossed for a try which was converted by Ed Gate.
Distington reduced the arrears with an unconverted try from Lewis Whitehead and went into a 10-6 interval lead with a try from man of the match Jamie Friel which Stephen Clarke converted.
An unconverted try from Scott Rooke extended the lead but a tense finish was assured when Danny Price made it a four-point game with a second Cockermouth try.
