The revived Workington Comets held their first presentation night in the Waverley, Workington last night and it proved a huge success.
The sell-out event saw a number of riders receive awards for their efforts during the first season back in the National Development League.
There was also the news for supporters that the Comets, who are moving into the Championship for the 2024 season, have made Sam McGurk their first signing.
McGurk had picked up the riders’ rider of the year award for his efforts during the season and had performed creditably in last week’s British Under-19s final at Birmingham.
There was not much doubt about the Comets rider of the year – Connor Bailey as the Australian was virtually unbeatable round the Northside track and in a remarkable double won the British Under-21s title and the National Development League riders championship.
Ace Pijper also picked-up a double for the rider who had won most bonus points and for being involved in the best race of the year.
Luke Harrison was the most improved rider; skipper Luke Crang was team man of the year and Elliot Kelly was the most entertaining rider of the year.
There was also a special presentation to Callum Foy, a member of the Meteors team.
