Penrith parkrun ticks all the boxes

As regular parkrun tourists, myself and wife Ann returned to Penrith for our second time.

We first visited in 2017 when Ann volunteered as one of the marshals, whilst I completed the parkrun. Today, Ann Tail Walked with our grandson, Alfie, and I run my 663rd parkrun.

The weather and conditions were excellent, considering we’re now into November, especially with all the adverse weather further south, resulting in many parkrun cancellations.

After the pre-event announcements, 278 were on our way to take part in the 427th Penrith parkrun, including 45 first timers.

Welcome & well done to Oliver KNIGHT, Tommy Hanson, Colin Watson Philip Westgarth, Thomas Lancaster and Victoria Reay who all completed their first ever parkrun.

The standout performance must go to Harry Lancaster who was first to finish, yet again. Harry has 61 first positions at Penrith, and has been first at Lancaster, Morecambe Prom, Maryport Prom, Portrush, Blackpool and Keswick, where his overall PB is 15:23.

A special mention to Martin Budgett, who run to raise awareness for the Bob Willis Fund and their work to seek better screening and diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. The link to their donation page is bobwillisfund.org/donate.

A huge thank you to all the enthusiastic volunteers. Remember that parkrun can’t go ahead without sufficient volunteers to host a safe event.

To summarise Penrith parkrun, it really does tick all the boxes. It’s ideally located, only a few minutes from the M6 North and Southbound, and very close to the A66 for travelling from the North East and west. Ample free parking and toilets very close to the start and finish area.

A flat and fast course, suitable for all abilities, and a very welcoming volunteer team. I’d definitely recommend Penrith parkrun as one of the friendliest. We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
