Barrow Leisure Centre is to be given almost £250,000 from the Government to help with its day-to-day costs of running its swimming pool.
The centre is in line to receive £235,476 from the Swimming Pool Support Fund as part of a £20 million scheme.
Conservative MP for Barrow and Furness Simon Fell said: “I know how important swimming is for many people – I also understand that swimming pools and leisure facilities have struggled over recent months as operating costs have increased.
“That is why I welcome the Conservative Government’s investment of £235,476 into Barrow Forward Leisure Centre as part of £20 million fund for swimming pools and leisure facilities across England.
“This funding will help ensure that the swimming pools and leisure facilities that are most at risk of closure can manage the increased operating costs so constituents can continue getting fit and healthy – contributing to the Prime Minister’s long-term aim to cut obesity rates and get millions more people active.”
The Government said more than 100 local authorities have been awarded a share of £20 million to help keep swimming pools open with an additional £60 million to be distributed over the next few months.
The first £20 million of funding is going to the swimming pools and leisure centres most at risk of closure or significant service reduction and will be used to help with the recent rise in energy costs, such as paying towards immediate maintenance costs, heating and pool chemicals.
Four swimming pools in West and north Cumbria will share over £360,000 to help them cope with rising costs.
The pools in Workington, Cockermouth, Whitehaven and Wigton have been given the cash by the Government after Cumberland Council applied for its Swimming Pool Support Fund round one.
