Steam trains and Thomas the Tank Engine are among the attractions at Cumbria’s largest model railway exhibition, to be held later this month.

Organised by volunteers from Solrail, the two-day event at Energus, Lillyhall, near Workington, takes place on November 18 and November 19.

Now in its 11th year, organisers promise more layouts than last year and for the first time there will be a very futuristic layout called Turquar 7, which you may be asked to help operate.

The exhibition brings together groups, organisations and individuals from all over Cumbria and Northern England who share a passion and enthusiasm for all things model railway, so why not get along and enjoy what’s on offer.

All except one of the layouts will be new to Workington and several have been featured in national model railway magazines.

Plans are also in the pipeline for an O gauge model of Aspatria station, running some Maryport & Carlisle Railway locomotives and rolling stock, to be on show.

It was last seen in 2011 at the Moorclose show and has been completely rebuilt since then.

There will be something for everyone including, layouts and exhibits. which incorporate a whole range of technologies from hand propelled to the very latest digital command control systems with some layouts having authentic background sounds.

The event is supported by a group of trade stands providing almost anything the modeller needs.

SCALEFOUR CUMBERLAND returns for a second year, in its own room, including demonstration stands and there will also be computer simulation programmes to try.

The venue is served by regular bus services from Workington and Whitehaven bus stations, service number 29. On Saturday, via Lillyhall, it stops right outside the Energus building. On Sunday there is a 20-minute walk from Harrington Road.

The exhibition will be open from 10am until 5pm on Saturday November 18 and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday November 19.

Admission is £7 for adults with accompanied children free. Also available will be a free, while stocks last, souvenir programme.
