A peace vigil for Gaza is set to go ahead in Carlisle.
It follows another vigil held last Saturday by the Palestine Solidarity Group Carlisle and District, and will take place today Saturday November 18 at 1pm in the city centre.
Last week, over 100 people attended and over 175 people signed a petition calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages unharmed and an end to the total siege of Gaza.
The group also raised £378 for medical aid for Palestinians and are hoping to launch another fundraiser in the future.
A group spokesperson said: “We are asking MPs to use their position to influence the government’s diplomatic actions.
“There is a huge demand for an outlet for people to express their outrage at the horror on their TV screens nightly and the public are greeting us very warmly on the whole.
“Many telling us they have marched in London over the past week or so. Our main call is for a ceasefire now.
“It is disappointing that Parliament did not vote for a ceasefire on Wednesday in response to the SNP motion, but we are heartened that an increasing number of MPs are realising that a humanitarian pause is simply not enough.
“Our group are pleading with our political representatives to do everything possible to bring this to an end and bring peace.”
The group will also be restarting their successful film programme in the near future, with screenings in the pipeline for Carlisle, Gilsland, Penrith and further afield.
Those attending the vigil are asked if they wish to bring banners, that they remain in line with calls for peace and solidarity and do not cause distress to anyone grieving deaths caused by the Israel-Palestine War.
