Windscale took the spoils at home to Hartlepool Pools Youth FA in their latest Wearside League fixture.
But it was a fractious contest before they eventually ran out winners with the only goal of the game.
The Atoms started well, controlling possession against Hartlepool who looked a little disjointed in the early stages.
Windscale were first to threaten a goal but Lewis Jolly was denied by Hartlepool custodian Ben Taylor saving with his legs when Jolly was put through on goal.
Matty Pierce was next to try following a cross from wide, with his header just clearing the crossbar.
As the end of the first period approached, it was Will Rooke who broke the deadlock.
Matt Metcalf won the ball in midfield and picked out Rooke who went past three defenders on a mazy run into the Hartlepool penalty area, finally slotting the ball beyond the advancing Taylor.
The second period was not one for lovers of cultured football. There were far too many petty fouls by both teams, the resulting reactions making life difficult for the match official, yellow cards being issued like confetti.
Neither side were able to create a clear-cut scoring opportunity, the main threat coming from set pieces by the Atoms which were adequately dealt with by Taylor.
Prior to the start, the teams were sitting 5th and 6th in the League table. This 1-0 victory elevating the Atoms from 6th into 4th.
However, a difficult task awaits them on Wednesday evening when they hope to extend their 10 game unbeaten streak, travelling to take on Silksworth Colliery Welfare.
