Penrith boss Darren Edmondson has been reflecting on what was probably his team’s best performance since he took over.
The Bonnyblues beat fifth-placed Heaton Stannington 2-0 at Frenchfield – and deserved it.
Edmondson said: “It’s always a bonus when we beat a top six side and Heaton Stannington are a good team with some very good players.
“It think it was probably the best win we’ve had since I took the job and gives us a lot of confidence.
“We did ride our luck in the first 10 minutes but after that we did really well and were always a threat on the counter attack.
“We have got players in from Reds who have made a difference, some lads are getting used to this league and we have got players back from injury.
“There are still players to come back inton the squad so we are in a good place with three important games coming up.
“We go to another quality side Boro Rangers on Saturday, we play Carlisle City on the Tuesday in a derby game and then have Tow Low who are really struggling with only a point.
“Although it was only Sunderland we beat 7-1 two weeks ago, and they are down there with Tow Law, it isn’t always easy to win like that against bottom sides and I do think it gave us confidence to go on and play like we did against Heaton Stannington.”
After a goalless first-half Penrith took the lead after 70 minutes when a quick free kick worked well and a ball across the six yard box was put in by Dan Smales.
The second goal near the end was similar and this time it was Luke Hunter who had a tap in at the far post.
