Penrith recorded their best win in the Northern League when they beat bottom side Tow Law 12-0 at Frenchfield.
But it left manager Darren Edmondson with mixed feelings, sympathising with the opposition who have only gathered a single point all season.
“It was fantastic to establish a record and we scored some excellent goals. It also stretched our unbeaten run to four games so all that was very good.
“But I did feel sorry for the Tow Low lads. They have only been in charge for two or three weeks, have no money to spend on players but have brought in virtually a new team.
“If I’m being honest it could have been nearer 20 and perhaps the disappointing thing was that the horrible weather reduced the attendance. It would have been nice for more of our supporters to have been there for it.
“The League is taking shape now, roughly between the clubs who have the money to spend and those who haven’t.
“Our aim has to be to climb out of the bottom eight into a mid-table berth and I think we can feel reasonably satisfied.
“The confidence will have grown from recent results and even though Tow Low are bottom with just a point it still takes a lot to reach double figures.
“There’s one thing for certain it will be tougher on Wednesday night when we go to Boro Rangers but confidence is growing, we have competition for places and are in the right frame of mind.”
Kingsley Grandison had given Penrith a third minute lead and two minutes later Luke Hunter netted from the penalty spot.
Grandison (27) and Luke Brown (40) made it 4-0 before half-time.
Penrith really cut loose in the second-half scoring eight more times – five of them in the last 20 minutes.
Hunter (72 and 73) went on to complete the day’s only hat-trick but there was a second half brace from Conor Hammell (55, 59).
Also on the score-sheet were DJ Taylor (69), Andrew Murray Jones (77) and Connor Shields (83) – and Penrith didn’t really need the assistance of a Robbie Shields own goal on 80 minutes.
