It might be just over eight months away but Aspatria Rugby Union club are already looking ahead and making plans for the 2024-2025 season.

It is an important season for several reasons and the Black Reds have plenty to look forward to.

The Aspatria club was formed 150 years ago and they have a proud history which will certainly marked by special events at Bower Park.

It will be 50 years since the opening of the current clubhouse, which for a small-town club was an amazing achievement back then.

Forty-five years ago was a bit special too – that season Aspatria first team played 33 games and won them all, which was quite an achievement.

And finally it will be 40 years since the club started the Development Draw. This is still very much alive and kicking, albeit a smaller version than when in its heyday it had over 800 members. There are two monthly prizes of £150 and £75 and has proved a vital source of revenue for the club.

So plenty to look forward to next season, but there’s also half a season left in the New Year with Aspatria challenging well in Regional 2 North. Although just sixth they have been higher and look capable of a top four finish -m which is the aim.

There’s also a County Cup semi-final to look forward to against Carlisle in February and with the best Cup record of all over their 150 years they would like nothing better to add another notch on the list of honours.
