Barrow Raiders kicked off their pre-season with a 62-0 win over a Barrow Amateur Select side.
But coach Paul Crarey insisted: “The game was all about Dan Toal as part of his testimonial. He has been a tremendous player for us, always 100% and we really missed him last season.”
A crowd of 636 watched the game when Toal, who has been only back in training for a short while after a long injury lay-off, made a one minute appearance at the end.
Crarey used the game to look at some of the promising young Furness Academy players as well as new faces introduced during the winter.
One of the new arrivals, Max Anderson-Moor who was with Workington Town last season, and got on the score-sheet as early as the 23rd minute.
Brett Carter scored a second-half hat-trick and there were further tries from Luke Cresswell (2), Josh Wood, Ryan Shaw, Connor Terrill, Luke Broadbent and Jarrad Stack – all familiar faces from last season.
Shaw kicked eight goals from ten attempts and Broadbent also landed a conversion.
Toal has been with Barrow for 13 years and has topped 200 appearances, which he hopes to add to this coming Championship season.
