Workington man Reece Martin Kelly has pleaded not guilty to charges which allege that he downloaded scores of indecent photographs of children.
Kelly, 31, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning.
He faces three charges, each of which alleges that he made indecent photographs of children between September 16 and October 21 2021. It is alleged that 29 downloaded photographs were classed in category A — the most serious; with four in category B and 136 in category C.
During a hearing in front of Judge Nicholas Barker, Kelly pleaded not guilty to all three charges, and also spoke to confirm his name and date of birth while appearing remotely over a video link.
All charges have been brought after police took possession of Kelly’s mobile phone on October 22, 2021.
Kelly, latterly of Hunday Court, Workington, will now face trial in front of a jury. This is due to start in the week of May 28 and, it is estimated, will last around three days.
Judge Barker listened as a number of future dates for the service of documents in the case — including scientific evidence — were agreed.
The documents also include a completed statement setting out Kelly’s defence to the allegations that he denies.
An extra hearing will take place at the crown court on February 23. In the meantime, Kelly remains remanded in custody.
