Initial plans to build 42 new homes in South Cumbria have been given the go-ahead by the council.
Westmorland and Furness Council has approved an application from Urofoam Ltd for outline planning permission to build the estate on the site of a former factory off Duddon Road in Askam.
Westmorland and Furness Council has imposed 27 conditions on the plans to ensure the proposed development is acceptable.
Conditions imposed include if contamination is found on the site which presents an ‘unacceptable risk’ no development is allowed to take place until a remediation scheme is approved by the council.
Other conditions relate to access to the site and sustainable drainage among others.
The site is located to the south-east of James Street and to the east of Duddon Road and is approximately five km north west of Dalton-in Furness. Access to the site is from Duddon Road to the south, which is next to Askam Railway Station.
It covers an area of approximately 1.37 hectares and is mainly covered by a large factory previously used by Urofoam Ltd, a manufacturing company.
Before that, it was a factory operated by K Shoes.
