Seven trees will be removed from a major Carlisle road as work starts this weekend.
A survey identified the work that was needed on Warwick Road and contractors are set to move in tomorrow, Sunday February 11, from 7.30am. Work will also be carried out on the following three Sundays.
Cumberland Council’s highways team will start work from the east end of Warwick Road, progressing towards Carlisle city centre.
Drivers are warned that a stop and go traffic management system will be used while work is carried out.
The council said tree removal was considered a last resort and is only used in cases where the tree is dead, dying, diseased, or dangerous. It added that only trees meeting that criteria would be removed and also not every tree in the area will undergo maintenance.
Other work includes crown reductions from properties and streetlights, crown cleans to remove any dead branches and pollarding.
It added that people in areas directly affected by tree removal will receive letters from the council’s contractor, providing detailed explanations for the removal.
People may need to find alternative parking during the work.
