Three former Workington Reds players have moved nearer a visit to Wembley in the FA Vase final.

The trio are with North Counties East League leaders Emley who have reached the quarter finals of the national competition.

Two second half goals gave them a 2-0 home win in front of over 800 fans against Whickham of the Northern League.

Both Ruben Jerome and Iyrwah Gooden were in the starting line up but a third member of the trio Donae Lawrence, who has been an ever present, missed out with injury.

The draw for the quarter finals takes place this afternoon and the Huddersfield club will be looking for another home draw where they have a formidable record.

They have a handy lead at the top of the North Counties East League and if they go on to win the title they will earn promotion to the NPL East,

Jerome was a member of the Workington squad which won promotion to the NPL Premier Division last season.

Both he and Gooden had been signed by Danny Grainger while Lawrence was recruited by former manager Chris Willcock during a Reds injury crisis two years ago.
