A print studio, offering workshops for people of all abilities, is set to open in Cockermouth.

Market Place Print Studio, run by Jack Tatham and Emily Baker, will give people the chance to learn printing processes including etching, linocut, monoprinting as well as more advanced techniques.

Jack is a printmaker specialising in etching. He said: “We hope that the new print studio, with its large printing press, will be a useful space for artists wanting to print artworks and develop their practice, as well as a welcoming space for people with zero artistic experience to come and learn new skills and enjoy the process of making art.”

Emily specialises in the natural dyeing of fabrics and aims to offer block printing classes. She said: “We want to create a space that is very community facing; a studio that feels welcoming and encourages playful and imaginative learning and artistic development.”

The studio is split into two rooms. One with the full sized, traditional etching press and all the equipment for the different printing processes
with art books to learn from and the other room is a more reflective space for drawing and thinking up ideas.

The pair said: “We encourage experienced artists and curious beginners alike to get in touch and ask questions about our courses and the studio space.”

The studio will hold an open day on Saturday.
