DJ Vernon Kay has been revealed as the headline act to help racegoers get in the party mood at Cartmel Racecourse this summer.

The venue hosts three Saturday race days each season, and two years ago added extra value with an evening DJ set by Kaiser Chiefs’ frontman Ricky Wilson.

It has now announced that it plans once again to help people celebrate summer with its second-ever DJ set to be hosted by 49-year-old Kay.

He is guaranteed to get the party started at Cartmel after the last race has finished on Saturday, July 20.

Director of racing Geraldine McKay said: “We know people love coming to Cartmel for a good day out and to do what they love doing; for many people it’s a tradition.

“It is fantastic to be able to offer something different to those who come every year, and give them a bit extra to help them enjoy the day.

“This is massively exciting for us. Vernon Kay is such a big name, so we are delighted to be able to offer him to our visitors.”

Kay recently attracted a whole new set of fans after his Ultra Ultramarathon Challenge for Children in Need saw him run from Leicester to Bolton – 116 miles – in four days. He raised more than £5m.

Cartmel, which is owned by Holker, said its summer Saturday is traditionally one of the busiest race days of the year, and Kay’s announcement means it promises to be bigger than ever before.
