Workington Zebra Finches have reached the semi-final of the RFU Community Plate for the second year in succession – without a single ruck, maul or scrum.
The Finches were due to play North Ribblesdale at The Ellis this Sunday, but received a bye when the North Yorkshire club forfeited the match due to injuries making them unable to raise a team.
It’s particularly disappointing for Workington as they have been in excellent form since the start of 2024, with five victories in seven matches.
But the silver lining is that they now have an extra week to prepare for their next two all-important fixtures – their away trip to RFU North 2 League leaders Keswick Falcons on March 17 and then the following week at The Ellis in the RFU Community Plate Semi-Final against the winners of the tie between Amber Valley or St Neots.
