Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has died at the age of 66.

He was diagnosed with cancer less than two years ago.

His death was announced by co-star and fellow motorcycle-riding chef, Si King, who said he was with Myers when he died peacefully at home yesterday, February 28.

His wife, Lillian, his family and close friend David were also by his side, King said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.

“I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime,” the statement read.

“I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”

Such sad news about Dave Myers. A lovely, kind man. The last time I saw him he gave me the biggest, best bear hug. I remember the huge bouquet of flowers he and Si sent me as I recovered from my cancer. Such a lovely surprise. He really was a special guy. #RipDave

Mr Myers shared that he had cancer on the Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles podcast in May 2022, but did not specify what type.

Mr Myers, from Barrow, presented the first Cumbria Food Awards two years ago.

Sam Plum, chief executive of Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “He was a tireless advocate for Barrow, Furness and the wider area and did immense good showcasing the many fantastic aspects of our area nationally and internationally.

“His easy embodiment of the strength of community of his home town was evident in everything he did and his support of events, groups and charities locally was much appreciated by many.

“The world is a less brighter place after his passing and we would like to extend our sympathies to Dave’s family and friends. The flag at Barrow Town Hall has been lowered to half mast today as a mark of our respect and we will be discussing in the days and weeks to come how we can more permanently commemorate Dave’s legacy.”
