A Cumbrian charity made an appearance on popular daytime BBC TV show Escape to the Country.

Eden Animal Rescue was featured on the show as host Nicki Chapman brought a Berkshire couple to the area to look for a home.

They visited properties in Stainton, Penrith, and Orton and the couple, from Berkshire, were keen to find somewhere to volunteer.

The show took them to Eden Animal Rescue’s centre at Newbiggin, near Temple Sowerby.

Chris Cheetham, the charity’s chair, showed them how volunteers made a real difference to the charity and animals they support.

The charity is currently working to raise £500,000 to fund new kennels at its base at Moorlands Head Farm, near Penrith.

Chris said: “We are delighted that we have had the chance to be involved in an episode of Escape to the Country, and we have had a donation from someone the other end of the country who watched the programme when it was aired.

“Every donation makes a positive difference to our appeal, and we are very grateful to the BBC for coming to our centre and giving us the opportunity to explain how people can get involved whether it’s looking after the animals, working in the grounds on in one of our two charity shops.

“The episode is going to stay on the BBC iPlayer for a year, which means even more people will be able to get a glimpse of the work we do at Eden Animal Rescue.”

It was broadcast on BBC One on February 26.
