Workington’s United Club A have piled the pressure on L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One leaders Workington Golf Club A.

They cut their lead week with a 5-0 win against Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.

Dave Chapman gave United A the best possible start with a victory in the first and as team mate Clive Lister won the second the score was soon 2-0.

A Peter O’Hagan victory in frame three maintained the United Club A onslaught for 3-0 and with Mark Suitor triumphing in the next the match score moved to 4-0.

Even though a solid away performance was already secured Andrew Mitchelhill was determined to make the result as favourable as possible. A workman like display was quickly to follow and with the United A captain showing no mercy Mitchelhill completed a devastating 5-0 whitewash and increased their title challenging hopes.

The leaders Workington Golf Club A defeated Workington’s United Club B to continue their winning run. However in a 3-2 away victory they clearly didn’t have it all their own way.

A Ryan Ismay contribution of 42 was enough for a 1-0 Golf Club A lead and as Bryan Walker took the second the lead was doubled for 2-0.

The third frame saw Wayne Sinclair drag United B back into the match with an impressive victory for 2-1 but it was Phil Sorfleet who ensured the Golf A side went home as match winners with a confident fourth frame triumph and a 3-1 match lead.

The final frame of the match still gave up a point and with Jamie Flitton up for taking it the United B cueist did just that for a damage limiting finish to the match.

Flimby Social still have an outside chance of claiming the Division One title and with a 4-1 home victory against Workington’s United Club B they kept in the hunt.

A quite brilliant break of 70 from Division One’s leading player Kevin Kirkham put Flimby 1-0 up and as Sal Cakmak won the second the Social side led 2-0.

Lewis Staughton halted Flimby’s charge to take the third frame for United B but it was a Michael ‘Sid’ Walker victory on the last couple of balls that gave Flimby an unassailable 3-1 advantage.

The final frame of the match saw a scrappy encounter develop before, with dogged determination, Social captain Geoff Banton extended the winning margin to 4-1 by taking the last.

Division Two leaders Workington Veterans Club A survived a scare against Maryport Social with a 3-2 victory from 2-1 down to maintain title chasing momentum.

Another win for the in-form Craig Davies gave the Vets A side a 1-0 lead but with Andrew Sharp taking frame two Maryport pulled back level at 1-1.

The third frame looked to be going Vets A’s way before a quite brilliant clearance from green to black by Gary Miller gave the Social side a surprising 2-1 lead.

Breaks of 38 and 40 from Vets A captain Kevin Basnett made it 2-2 and with the second tier leaders taking the last the turnover was complete.

Finally, Workington Conservative Club collected a much needed five-point win with a whitewash over Division Two’s Workington Golf Club B.

A Richard McCarthy victory in the first got the Division One side off the mark and as Julian Plaza executed a tactical masterclass in the second Cons moved 2-0 ahead.

Former county champion Alan Moore fought hard to make it 3-0 with a win in the third and with Dave Holland producing the evening’s most convincing victory in the fourth the Cons outfit stretched their lead to 4-0.

In the last Ryan Barker was in no mood to give anything up easily and with a equally convincing display the Cons cueist completed the whitewash.
