Tuesday evening action in the Carlisle Snooker League saw Qzone win a last frame black ball decider to win their match 3-2 in Division One.
In Division Two the leaders SECC C, fielding a depleted team, suffered their first defeat of the season.
Meanwhile Mike Griffiths had a 72 break for Inter Qzone, which could have been 90, but unfortunately, he went in-off on the blue. This means that his teammate, Mike Nixon still has the highest break of the season (85).
As mentioned, SECC C slipped up for the first time this year, in what has been a dominate season for them.
They were playing away at The Conservative Club, which is always a difficult place to get a result and only had four players, so the fifth and final frame was a walkover victory for Raymond Middlemore.
The action got underway with Ray and Stephen Swailes both winning their matches against Paul Watson and Peter Day respectively. Stephen had a nice 30 break in the process.
However, Andy Butcher got the home side their first point of the night with a high scoring victory over Adrian Shaw (60-43).
With the match score now at 2-2, the final frame of the evening saw David Dixon beat Stu Roberts 45-35 to secure the win for the home team, plus the extra bonus point for winning at home. Match score 4-2 to The Conservative Club.
The Ex Servicemens Club C were at home to DH Qzone in Division One in a mid-table clash with the visitors looking to pick up some crucial points.
In the first frame Jason Henderson got them off to a flying start against The Ex’s Dave Turley by winning 59-36. There were no breaks of note, but consistent scoring was enough to win.
In the second frame Nigel Lewthwaite was on top form against Dave Sanderson, dominating early on to build a substantial lead which forced Dave to concede when reaching the colours with the score 50-10 to Nigel.
The third frame was a close one between Andy Bell for the home team and Gary Cosway for the DH Qzone. Andy produced some lovely potting at important times to put the first point on the board for the Ex Servicemens Club.
That quickly became 2-2 in the fourth frame, when Stuart Styth beat Rich Lambert 55-7. So the match hinged on the final frame between Peter Marsden for The Ex and Tommy Sanderson for DH Qzone.
Tommy has seen many last frame deciders over the years and used his vast experience to keep things tight against Peter.
When the match got down to the colours, Tommy got the high value colours to win the frame 47-38. This secured DH Qzone two bonus points for the away win. Match score Ex Club C 2 DH Qzone 5.
