Workington Comets new Finnish rider took his first look at the Northside track after arriving for the start of the season.
There was no chance of an early practice because of the state of the track after heavy rain which has caused the postponement of the Ben Fund Bonanza.
But the 24-year-old had a good look round and he will meet-up with his team-mates next Saturday at the pre-season press and practice.
Antti Vuolas, who rode for Finland in the 2023 Speedway World Cup in Wroclaw, may be remembered for a memorable Heat 6 race victory where he beat former World Champions and SGP riders Nicki Pedersen and Jason Doyle.
Workington Speedway promoter Andrew Bain said: “We have been looking at Antti for a while now, he’s still young but has already beaten some world class riders on the continent, so for him to agree to ride for us in 2024 is testament to what we’ve achieved here at Northside.
“Antti has already expressed to me how good the new Northside track looks but when he gets on it I think he will love it even more and it will suit him down to the ground. Also our fans I’m sure will give him a very warm welcome!”
Antti will come into the Comets lineup with a 5.00 assessed average.
Comets fans brought up on the Derwent Park era have fond memories of another Finnish rider who became a huge hit for the Comets – Kauko Nieminen
Apart from 2006 the popular Nieminen rode from 2002 until 2009 for the Comets and was three times national champion in Finland.
