Atherton Collieries will have a new signing in their line-up for this afternoon’s NPL Premier Division clash at Workington.
Ethan Beckford joined the Division’s strugglers from Havant & Waterlooville ahead of Thursday afternoon’s NPL registration deadline.
A graduate of the Toronto academy in Major League Soccer, Manchester born Beckford has predominantly played his career in the Canadian leagues, though has also recorded appearances for Curzon, Hyde and Ashton Athletic in England.
Ethan most notably demonstrated his goalscoring prowess with Simcoe County Rovers in the 2022 season, with 15 goals from 17 games, earning a move to top Canadian side Cavalry FC, with whom he won the top division in 2023.
Ethan returned to England with Havant and Waterlooville in January, for whom he has made seven appearances in the National League South.
Ethan has also previously represented Ashton Athletic on loan in 2021, scoring 11 goals in 12 appearances.
He came on for the last 30 minutes on Saturday but couldn’t prevent the Collieries side slipping to a particularly damaging 2-1 home defeat against fellow strugglers Basford United.
With six games left to play Atherton Collieries are 11 points from safety and defeat against the Reds would be another significant blow.
