Feargal Sharkey will join Save Windermere protestors for their weekly strike outside United Utilities’ information centre.
Members of the Save Windermere campaign have been striking outside the centre every Monday for an hour for over 20 weeks.
They want an immediate commitment from the water firm and the Environment Agency to cease all sewage discharges into the lake.
Latest figures from the Environment Agency show that since 2020, United Utilities has dumped over 27,787 hours – equivalent to 1,157 full days in four years – of untreated sewage which has found its way into Windermere lake.
In 2023, the most recent data shows 8,787 hours or 366 full days of untreated sewage entering England’s largest lake.
Mr Sharkey is the former frontman of The Undertones and in recent years become a vocal water campaigner.
He said: “The reality is that United Utilities is dumping sewage into Windermere.

“Since 2020 this has amounted to a total of 27,786 hours. Our lakes and rivers are suffering at the hands of negligence, a lack of regulatory oversight and inadequate investment.
“I look forward to joining Matt and the Save Windermere team, passionate local people who are challenging the status quo, to demand a future where our environment is prioritised over profit.
“This cannot be more critical for the Lake District National Park.”
The strike will be held on Monday, April 8, from 9am to 10am outside the information centre on Crescent Road in Windermere.
