It’s going to be “an old firm” derby in the Fred Conway County Cup final on April 23!
Workington and Carlisle United will go head-to-head at Borough Park.
The Reds had to work hard for their semi-final victory last night, beating the County League leaders Maryport Athletic 3-0 at Borough Park.
Athletic put up a good show against a strong Workington line-up which included eight members of his first team squad in the starting line-up and four more on the bench.
But there was a worrying end for the Reds when top scorer Dav Symington, who had bagged two more on the night, had to be helped off after suffering a foot injury in the last minute.
Reds resume their Northern Premier League campaign on Saturday at home to promotion-chasing Marine.
Nobody had been able to make a breakthrough with a number of efforts at goal but usually wide of the mark.
The game burst into life on 38 minutes when Ciaran Laverty thumped a strong shot against the Workington bar.
When the ball rebounded Reds broke well and a swift counter ended with Dav Symington firing into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later Lewis Reilly doubled the lead when he finished off a smart move involving Symington and Bobby Carroll, with a shot which went in off the post.
After Maryport keeper Craig Rule had made a couple of good stops Workington increased their lead on 64 minutes. From a short corner Symington lined up a shot and it took a deflection before finding the net.
There wasn’t much doubt about the result after the third goal but Maryport kept battling away with spirit and ability.
At one point they forced three corners in quick succession with the third finally landing on the roof of the net.
Logan Bosward twice had shots blocked from inside the area and Laverty could only fire straight at Danny Eccles when left with a shooting opportunity.
Reds will be delighted to make a second successive final, especially as it’s against the traditional “old enemy” in Carlisle United.
For Maryport, much respect and praise for their effort in defeat and they can gain ample consolation by going on to clinch the County League title.
