A West Cumbrian man has been killed in a motorbike collision.

Lewis Durham, 21, known as Duzza, was killed in the incident in Wigan on Saturday.

Greater Manchester Police said: “Reports suggest a Peugeot 408 collided with a Suzuki GSR750 motorbike that had a rider and passenger on it.

“Both became unseated suffering serious injuries.

“Emergency services attended and sadly confirmed a 21-year-old man had passed away at the scene because of the impact.

“Despite the best attempts of medical professionals, the other person, a 56-year-old man also tragically died a short time later in hospital from the injuries suffered at the time.

“The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.”

He has been released on bail.

The 56-year-old man who died has been named as Leslie Baron.

An online Gofundme page has been set up in Lewis’ memory by his best friend Leo McMullen.

Leo said: “I’m fundraising for my best mate Lewis Durham who tragically passed away over the weekend. I’m looking to raise some money to give to charity to mark his memory.”

So far, over £11,000 has been raised in memory of the Workington man.

His family said: “It is with great sadness that Lewis has been so tragically taken away from us.

“The youngest in our family with the world at his feet. He’s left a huge hole in our family, our hearts are absolutely broken. He was always a happy, fun loving character, who had everything going for him in life, loved by everyone and had the best of friends. A loving son, grandson, and little brother.

“We’d like to thank the emergency services and people who assisted him at the scene who comforted him in maybe his last moments. We’ll cherish every memory we have of you Lewis.

“We’re all beyond proud of you and will miss and love you forever. You’re now the brightest star in the sky Lewis. Love you forever and always Mam, Dad, Grandma, Granda, Nana, and your two big sisters.”

Seaton Rangers posted on its Facebook page: “This Saturday we face our local rivals Distington ARL and CASC at the welfare. Pre-game we will be holding a minute’s silence in memory of our former youth player Lewis ‘Duzza’ Durham who played with a large number of our current squad.

“A hugely popular young man who was much loved by so many and will be greatly missed.”

Cloud Competitions said on its Facebook page: “Unfortunately West Cumbria lost an extremely kind, caring and an all round great fella over the weekend.

“Loved by all, Lewis’s memory will live on and it’s great to see his friends doing a fundraiser for his family.

“Our team formed a good friendship with Lewis from regularly messaging him as he was extremely lucky with us. He will be a great miss to all.

“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones. Rest easy Lewis.”

Leslie’s family said: “It is with a heavy heart that we write this message in tribute to Leslie Baron, known to us as ‘Lez’. He was a much-loved brother, uncle, and a friend to many.

“We would firstly like to thank the emergency services and the members of the public for all their efforts in helping him at the scene of the collision. We extend our praise to the hospital staff at Aintree Hospital also.

“Lez was a larger-than-life character who loved his dogs, riding his motorbike, and playing golf. He would do anything for anyone. He will be missed deeply by us all.

“May he rest in peace; we will love you always.”
