A man who sent a woman unwanted letters and concert tickets as he stalked her over several months has been made the subject of a hospital order.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that 41-year-old Jonathan Hall worked with the woman at a Lake District hotel.
Hall gave the woman a hand-delivered letter referring to a relationship between the pair which didn’t exist. Also attached were tickets to a concert he wanted to attend with her.
Her level of anxiety was such that Hall was dismissed from his job, but his activity continued.
This included the mailing of another letter to his victim in which he fixated on a relationship that had never happened; and, after he had been arrested and granted bail, the sending of an Instagram message showing him in the bath.
Hall admitted stalking the woman, causing her serious alarm or distress, between August 2021, and June 2022 and also illegal blade possession after blades were found inside his vehicle following a second arrest.
Two doctors agreed that Hall had been suffering from a delusional disorder and required ongoing treatment.
As a result, Recorder Julian Shaw imposed both a hospital order and a restraining order which bans Hall, of The Heights, Staveley, from having any contact with the woman.
