
A woman was airlifted to hospital on her 70th birthday after suffering a serious fall on a Lake District fell.
Keswick Mountain Rescue were called out on Monday May 20 at 4.27pm to the woman near Skew Gill on the Corridor Route to Scafell Pike after she fell and seriously injured her leg and hip.
Air ambulance were called out to assist with the incident and a doctor provided the woman with pain relief.
A coastguard helicopter was then requested due to the woman’s location and injuries.
Mountain rescue team members approached the incident on foot from Seathwaite and arrived at the same time as coastguard.
The woman was then winched from the gully and flown to the RVI in Newcastle for treatment.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “We wish the casualty a belated happy birthday and a swift recovery.”
The incident lasted four hours and involved 15 team members.
