It’s amazing how a cool breeze during the pre-run warm-up seems to vanish once the horn sounds the start, this time, of Penrith’s 456th parkrun of June 1 down at Frenchfield.
Not that the 279 participants were complaining, after the wet conditions of recent times.
Nor the 34 volunteers who could cast aside the waterproofs for some factor (insert preferred strength here) to keep away the rays while encouraging and congratulating us all on our efforts.
Never mind the time, everyone is a winner just by taking part.
The smiles (aka grimaces) on their faces tell the story of every individual striving to keep going/finish/get a pb/get to the refreshments ASAP.
To name but a few: Eleanor Strathdee, Wendy Cannon, Andrew Weatherall and Caleb Thornton completed run number 50, Naomi Thornton completed her 100th (they are all now eligible to spend heavily on the milestone merchandise), and Maxine Ransom chalked up a double century – great efforts one and all!
