Cockermouth’s Kirkgate has reopened following a crane collision earlier this week.
The road was closed after the crane became wedged between two buildings on Wednesday.
People have had to be evacuated after the incident, due to fears there may have been a gas leak. After the crane was released, blocks of masonry were strewn across the road.
On Wednesday, Allerdale police said once Kirkgate House had been assessed and made safe, the road would reopen.
Cumberland Council confirmed today, Friday June 21, that Kirkgate house had been inspected by the building owner’s contractors and signed off as safe.
The temporary road closure has now been lifted.
Allerdale police added: “The driver of the vehicle has been identified, spoken to and reported for driving without due care and attention.
“Officers would like to thank members of the public and businesses for their understanding and assistance whilst emergency services dealt with the situation.”
