There are only days to go until the General Election – and Cumbrian candidates have been hitting the streets to woo voters.
Cumbria Crack asked candidates in the 2024 General Election to give us an overview of what they have been up to while out on the campaign trail.
It is an open invitation to all candidates – here are the people who have taken us up on the offer this week:
Carlisle
Julie Minns, Labour
Last weekend I joined residents in Cotehill for afternoon tea in the village hall. It was packed!
I soon realised why as the home baked cakes and scones were worthy of a Great British Bake Off final.
I’ve loved going to local events like this over the past year and meeting so many people committed to supporting their local community.
And a special shout-out to the lovely group of women from Great Corby Bowling Club who I was sat with at the tea.
She is the latest member of Labour’s top team to visit Carlisle. Knocking on doors with Anneleise in Belle Vue it was a joy to meet the mam of one of my primary schoolmates.
It turns out my campaign team have created a bingo card with boxes like ‘went to school with Julie’, ‘I’m Julie’s second cousin’ or – by far the most common – ‘I know Julie’s mam’.
- I spent the last day of the penultimate week of campaigning in Harraby, supporting our council by-election candidate, Justin McDermott.
Lots of mixed emotions about the by-election. I’m really excited for Justin who has worked hard to win this seat, but I’ve also missed Cyril Weber who sadly passed away earlier this year having been the voice of Harraby for so long. Whatever happens on the July 4, I just wish Cyril was still with us.
