A £10,000 fundraiser has been launched to help a West Cumbrian brewery worker injured in an explosion.
Leigh Taylor, sales manager at Tractor Shed Brewing in Seaton, near Workington, was airlifted to Newcastle RVI with severe burns after the explosion on May 13.
His children, Savannah, 19, and Byron, 17, have now launched an online fundraiser to help support Mr Taylor on his long road to recovery.
The father-of-two suffered 37% burns to his face, legs and hands and was flown to the hospital’s critical care unit.
His family said: “We were told he would be unlikely make it out and that he was the ‘sickest person in the hospital’ at that time.”
Mr Taylor also suffered a cardiac arrest and spent five weeks on a ventilator, but regained consciousness and began to grow stronger.
After eight weeks in the intensive care unit, he was deemed fit enough to move to a new ward and his rehabilitation is ongoing.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Health & Safety Executive. Cumbria police also launched an investigation after the explosion.
Emergency services were contacted at around 2.50pm on May 13 to Calva Brow. Police said they were contacted by North West Ambulance Service which had received a report of an explosion at the brewing facility.
Ambulance crews, police and the fire service were all in attendance. Two air ambulances also attended.
