Three people were trapped by the tide on a sandbank near the mouth of a river.
Silloth RNLI was called out to help the trio on Monday, July 8, at around 3.10pm.
The volunteer crew said: “They were cut off by the tide near the entrance to the River Annan.
“Whilst the volunteer crew were on route, information came through via radio communications that the three persons were now safely back on dry land. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.”
Rebecca Clark, Silloth RNLI press officer, said: “Although our lifeboat crew were stood down in this shout, we are delighted this was a positive outcome and the three people were able to return to shore safely.
“Tide times and heights vary throughout the month and can easily catch you out if you haven’t checked them. Please don’t attempt to walk on sandbanks, they may look spectacular from the shoreline but you can become cut off especially with the fast changing tides.
“Before you head out, make sure it’s safe. Check the tide tables and while you’re out, be aware of your surroundings and the tide’s direction. Always carry a means of calling for help, such as a mobile phone.
“If you find yourself, or spot someone in difficulty in or near the water – call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
