A free macramé workshop is set to take place at a Workington care home.
Newlands Care Centre will hold the event for people in the local community. The session will be hosted by head of activities Hlah Nyoni, who has years of experience in fibre art.
Participants will receive hands-on guidance, have the chance to view a variety of handcrafted macramé creations, and ask questions about the craft.
The care home has already experienced success with macramé, having won a hanging basket competition two years ago organised by Workington Town Council with a resident-created display that featured one of the home’s residents.
The experience had changed the home, and staff said that the art form had enjoyed a recent resurgence.
General manager at Newlands Kim Whelan said: “Everyone is warmly welcome, whether they are complete beginners or simply curious to discover the art of macramé.”
The workshop offers an opportunity to learn a creative skill, meet new people, and refreshments will be served.
The event will take place on Saturday July 25 2026 at 2.15pm.

Newlands care home is run by Barchester Healthcare. It provides nursing care and dementia care for 54 residents from respite care to long term stays.
