Thousands of people in Whitehaven were without water yesterday for over eight hours.

United Utilities said it was experiencing an issue in the CA28 postcode, which had resulted in people experiencing low water pressure or no water at all.

It was reported at 10am yesterday, Monday, July 29.

The firm said a leak on George Street was causing the problem.

At 12.05pm, it added: “We’re on with it and our team will be in the area as soon as possible to get this fixed.”

At 2.17pm, it added: “We want to assure you, it’s our top priority to get things back to normal in your area and we’re doing all we can to get started with the work.

“Please bear with us, we’ll let you know when we’re on site and have started the repair. We’re really sorry we haven’t got your water flowing just yet.”

At 6pm, the firm said: “We’re sorry your water isn’t flowing just yet, please be assured we’re making good progress with the repairs.

“We still have some work to do to get things back to normal and it’s taking a little longer than we hoped, however our team onsite are working as quickly as they can.

“Thanks for your understanding and patience.”

The issue has now been resolved.
