Plans to transform an empty Carlisle store into a wine bar have hit a stumbling block – because those behind the scheme failed to provide essential information.
A bid to create the bar on The Crescent was submitted to Cumberland Council, but the authority has had to dispose of it because it has had no contact from the applicants.
The building was previously a travel agents before being converted into a takeaway in 2007.
A decision notice said: ” Despite several requests for additional information, no response has been received. Accordingly, the council is finally disposing of the application.
“No development should be carried out without the necessary planning approval being attained.”
Two planning applications were submitted by the applicant, one for the change of use, and the other requested adjustments to the existing toilets, adaptation of the existing cellar into storage/office and the installation of a bar area on the ground floor.
Within Carlisle City Centre Conservation Area, each of the buildings on The Crescent are Grade II-listed. The original buildings date from the early 19th century.
