A Workington man has been banned from being a nuisance on a town estate – and will be arrested if he continues to be so.

Colin Berry, 33, has been handed an injunction by magistrates following anti-social behaviour at Salterbeck.

The injunction, which will remain in effect until further notice, imposes a number of conditions on Berry.

He must not:

  • Engage in conduct which causes or is capable of causing a nuisance or annoyance to persons residing and/or lawfully visiting the locality known as Salterbeck Estate, Workington, Cumbria.
  • Enter any private land or garden without the occupiers express permission
  • Engage in any conduct which causes or is likely to cause harassment alarm or distress to any person
  • Use any insulting language towards or threaten violence towards any person
  • Cause any person to fear the infliction of harm
  • Harm any person by the direct application of force against them
  • Be under the influence of alcohol or drugs in public
  • Have any open container of alcohol in a public place

If he breaches any condition, he can be arrested. Cumbria police’s Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team said if anyone saw Berry breach a condition, they should contact them immediately.

As part of the injunction, Berry is also required to co-operate with Recovery Steps and to complete all activities instructed by them.

Sergeant Neil McKinnell, of the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are pleased that the court granted this injunction to disrupt his behaviour and help improve the quality of life of those in the area.

“This injunction assists us in managing Berry’s behaviour, and if he breaches these conditions, he faces being arrested, and the courts will have greater powers in which to sentence him.

“We encourage any residents who are having issues within their communities to speak to their local community beat officer or PCSO or alternatively report issues via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

You can report a breach of the injunction online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or call 101.
