Families across the county are invited to take part in Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice Garden of Memories.
This year, the hospice is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Eden Valley Memorial Garden at Bitts Park, in Carlisle, created as a peaceful space for the local community to reflect and remember those dearest to them.
The hospice will be hosting two events this month – one in the memorial garden and one at the hospice.
Garden of Memories is for anyone throughout Cumbria, giving them the opportunity to commemorate those they miss and supporting families who need specialist clinical and medical care.
To take part, simply donate and the name of the person you wish to remember will be displayed in the Garden of Memories, which will be accessible at Eden Valley Hospice during August.
Lorna de Mello Wright, relationship fundraiser, said: “It costs about £13,150 per day to keep the hospice’s doors open. The hospice relies on donations, fundraising and the generosity of the local community as only 20% of the income is government funded.
“We want to make sure we are always here for the families and individuals who need our care. Choosing to take part in this year’s Garden of Memories will help to provide quality care to adults and children throughout Cumbria today and for many years to come.
“It is important to say that our Garden of Memories services are here for anyone who needs them, not just those who already have a connection to the hospice. We offer bereavement counselling and family support along with other community activities, like our Comfort Cafe.
“Hospice care looks different to everyone, but we tailor our care to ensure it suits each individual. By ensuring physical symptoms are well managed, having access to emotional support and with your ongoing generosity, we can continue to make final memories free of worry, pain and discomfort.”
The two Garden of Memories events take place on Sunday August 11 from 5pm at Bitts Park to commemorate 10 years of their dedicated garden area, and Tuesday August 13 from 6.30pm at the hospice.
To take part, visit www.edenvalleyhospice.org/garden-of-memories or call 01228 817613 or pop into the hospice between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
