Police are investigating after criminal damage was caused to a cash machine outside Keswick Post Office on Lake Road in the early hours of last Friday.
A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary said that police were called to the scene at around 12.47am but the suspect had already left the area when officers arrived.
A video circulating on social media shows a man attacking the machine with a metal street sign.
It put the unit out of action and inconvenienced customers but no money was taken.
Police said earlier this week that enquiries were ongoing.
